Chapter 263 The True Meaning of Harassing the Horsefly
Over the next few days, Luna's behavior left Sean bewildered.
She seemed to have lost all her vitality all at once, and was plunged into a deep grief. Her once lively and curious eyes were gone, replaced by silence and bewilderment.
Luna stayed in her room all day, barely speaking and having no contact with the outside world.
Her gaze often stared blankly out the window, as if searching for something, yet seeing nothing at all.
Sean tried to talk to her, hoping to pull her out of her grief, but each time he tried to speak to her, Luna would just shake her head slightly or give a few simple replies before falling into a long silence.
She seemed to have closed all her emotions inside, unwilling to share them with anyone.
Sean was filled with anxiety and helplessness.
He watched Luna immerse herself in her own world day after day, and his heart ached beyond words.
He tried everything to cheer her up, but Luna's reactions were always the same: indifference and aloofness.
Every day, Luna mechanically completes her daily chores, but her movements are slow and sluggish. She sits quietly at the dining table, staring blankly at the food, and only after a long time does she manage to eat a few bites before silently leaving and returning to her room.
At night, Luna often suffers from insomnia. She lies in bed with her eyes wide open, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Occasionally, she would get up late at night and quietly walk to the door of the laboratory where her mother used to work, standing there for a long time, as if waiting for her mother to come out.
However, each time she could only return to her room silently, filled with deep disappointment and despair.
Sean tried several times to open Pandora's lab, hoping to bring Luna inside and face reality to help her accept her mother's passing. But each time he stood in front of the lab door, just as his hand was about to touch the doorknob, Luna's pained face would appear in his mind, forcing him to abandon the idea.
A few days later, Sean noticed that Luna's health was also beginning to deteriorate.
Her face grew paler and paler, the dark circles under her eyes became more and more obvious, and she looked even more haggard.
She began experiencing frequent headaches and nausea, and even fainted several times while eating breakfast.
Xenophilius took her to see several doctors, but each time Luna just mechanically cooperated with the examinations and hardly responded to the doctors' questions.
The doctors prescribed some medications for her, but they didn't seem to be very effective.
And so, the time quickly came to Sean's last night there...
Sean sat in his room, feeling somewhat hesitant.
Today is the last day he left us.
This was also his last chance to try and reach Luna's heart.
He can't delay any longer.
With that thought in mind, Sean took a deep breath, stood up, gently pushed open the door, and walked towards Luna's room.
In the corridor, only the faint sound of his footsteps could be heard.
As he got closer to Luna's door, his heart beat faster and faster.
I haven't been this nervous in a long time.
Sean knocked gently on the door, but received no response.
He hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to push the door open and go in.
The room was dimly lit, with only a small lamp casting a soft glow on the bedside table.
Luna was curled up on the bed, her back to the door, looking exceptionally thin.
"Luna," Sean called her name softly, "can we talk?"
Luna didn't move, but trembled slightly.
Sean walked to the bedside, sat down slowly, and spoke softly, "Luna, I know you've been suffering a lot lately, and I know I may not be able to understand everything you've been through—but I want you to know that I've always been here with you."
Luna still didn't respond, shrinking even tighter as if trying to completely hide herself.
"Luna," he continued, "you don't have to bear all of this alone. Losing Pandora is a huge blow to all of us, and I feel immense pain and guilt as well, but I know this isn't just your responsibility, nor is it something you have to face alone."
Luna finally reacted; her shoulders twitched slightly, as if she was trying to control her emotions.
Her voice was low, filled with weariness and pain, "Did you already know... that my mother's experiment... would fail..."
Sean took a deep breath, nodded slowly, and looked guilty.
"Luna," his voice was low and sorrowful, "I did feel uneasy, and I had a vague feeling that this experiment might be dangerous, but I didn't stop her. I didn't do what I should have done."
A flicker of shock and disappointment crossed Luna's eyes, and tears welled up again. Her hands gripped the sheets tightly, her knuckles turning white, as she used all her strength to control her emotions.
"Why didn't you tell her?" Her voice trembled, filled with blame and despair. "If you had told her, if you had stopped her, maybe she wouldn't—"
"I..." Sean wanted to explain, but he couldn't bring himself to say anything about the time.
Luna could no longer hold back her tears. Her heart was torn apart by despair and anger. She collapsed helplessly onto the bed, tears streaming down her face. The disappointment in her eyes seemed to completely overwhelm Sean.
"I thought you were the person I trusted most—" Luna continued, her voice choked with sobs, filled with despair and grief, "but you did nothing! You just watched her take that risk, watched her walk into that disaster, and you let her die, Hack!"
Sean felt a sharp pain in his heart. He knew he had betrayed Luna's trust, and the root of it all was his failure to stop Pandora. He wanted to explain, to tell Luna that he had tried many times to dissuade Pandora, but had failed each time.
However, such an explanation seems so powerless at this moment; no matter what he says, Pandora is no longer there.
"Luna," Sean's voice was low as he knelt beside Luna's bed, reaching out to take her hand, but she pulled it back, looking at him with teary eyes. "You have to believe me, I never intended for this to happen. I really tried so many times to get her to give up on this experiment, or at least reconsider. But you know, once Pandora makes up her mind, it's very difficult to change it."
Luna's tears continued to flow silently, her chest heaving violently as if suppressing intense pain within her.
She closed her eyes, shook her head, trying to shut out all the pain and reality.
"I just wanted to protect you, to protect all of us," Sean's voice was filled with pain and regret. "I never thought I would lose Pandora. I thought I could help her when she needed me, to correct her before she made a mistake, but—I failed, I failed utterly."
Luna's tears welled up again. She covered her ears tightly, as if trying to escape from it all, but reality ruthlessly pulled her back into this cruel world.
"But you couldn't stop her!" Luna's voice was sharp and accusatory. She opened her eyes abruptly, her gaze filled with pain and anger. "You knew she was in danger, but you did nothing! You let her take the risk, let her—die in front of you!"
Sean was struck to the core by Luna's accusations; at that moment, he finally understood the meaning of fate.
That irresistible force made him realize that no matter how hard he tried, Pandora's fate seemed to have already been sealed, and what had already happened could not be undone.
Despite this, he was still filled with regret and self-blame, unable to accept the fact that he had failed to prevent the tragedy.
"Luna, you're right, I couldn't stop her," Sean's voice was filled with deep remorse. "I thought I could do more, could change things, but fate seems to have already arranged everything. I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry..."
Seeing Sean's pained and remorseful expression, Luna was suddenly touched.
At this moment, the anger, despair, and sorrow that had been building up within her seemed to find an outlet.
She finally realized that Sean was not a cold-hearted bystander; he too had lost an important part of himself in this tragedy and was also burdened with immense pain and self-blame.
"Hack," Luna whispered his name, her voice trembling slightly. A powerful emotion welled up within her, the kind of longing a lonely, helpless child feels for support and comfort.
She could no longer contain her emotions, and tears streamed down her face. She lunged at Sean, hugging him tightly, as if afraid that if she let go, he would leave her like her mother.
Her tears flowed like a flood, her shoulders trembled uncontrollably, and all her pent-up emotions collapsed completely at that moment.
"I'm so scared, Huck—I'm so scared—" Luna's voice choked as she buried her head in Sean's chest, tears soaking his clothes. "Huck, I lost my mother. I thought you were the only person I could rely on, but I feel like you—you took her away from me too."
Sean felt Luna's body trembling slightly in his arms. He gently stroked Luna's back, comforting her, "Luna, I'm here. I'll always be here—"
Luna's sobs gradually subsided, but she still clung tightly to Sean, her body still trembling slightly. However, with Sean's warm embrace, her heart calmed down a little.
"I'm so scared," Luna whispered. "Scared that I'll never see her again, scared that everything will be different. I don't know what to do, Huck—"
Sean was deeply touched by her helplessness; he knew that Luna needed him more than ever before.
He gently lifted Luna's face, making her look at him; her tearful eyes were filled with fear and unease.
"Luna, you know what?" Sean said softly, trying to make his voice sound warmer and gentler, "I recently heard about a very special little creature called harassment."
Luna slightly raised her head, her eyes blurred with tears as she looked at Sean, clearly puzzled by this suddenly appearing creature. "Harassment?" Her voice was still choked with sobs, but a hint of curiosity shone in her eyes.
Sean nodded, a gentle smile flashing in his eyes. "Yes, harassment is a very mischievous little insect. They're not big, only about the size of a fingernail, covered in colorful fine hairs, and most notably, they have a pair of large wings with strange little patterns on them."
Luna's brow furrowed slightly, clearly still processing this new creature. Her crying subsided as she became engrossed in Sean's words.
"What harassment loves to do most is to quietly fly up to people's ears and whisper softly, as if telling some very important secret," Sean continued, his tone becoming more relaxed. "But actually, they don't have anything important to say. They just like to cause trouble, making people feel ticklish and unable to help but laugh out loud."
"But their wings are very special. With a gentle flap, they can produce a special vibration that makes you feel relaxed, like your mother whispering in your ear, letting you know that everything will be alright."
As Luna listened, the tears in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by a rare tranquility. She hugged Sean tightly.
She felt a moment of security and comfort in his arms. "Really? Will they really do that?" she asked softly, a glimmer of hope in her voice.
Sean nodded and continued, "Yes, harassment won't plunge you into deep sadness. It will appear when you need it most, to accompany you, to comfort you, and to let you know you're not alone. Although they are small, their power is great. They will protect you until you rediscover your strength."
Luna felt as if she were enveloped in warmth. She gently closed her eyes and imagined the little disturbances fluttering around her, carrying away her sadness and fear.
Although she knew it was a story Sean had made up to comfort her, it gave her a long-lost sense of peace.
"Thank you, Hack," Luna said softly, a faint smile in her voice. "I feel like there really is one bothering me, and it makes me feel a little better."
Sean smiled, lowered his head, and gently kissed Luna's forehead, feeling her breathing gradually calm down.
Although Luna's pain could not be dispelled in an instant, at least for this moment, she was no longer completely consumed by grief.
"We'll be together, Luna," Sean said gently. "No matter what the future holds, I'll be by your side, protecting you like those little nuisances, until you find your smile again."

Luna nodded gently, and then, with Sean by her side, closed her eyes and fell asleep.
In her dream, Luna seemed to return to those carefree days.
She saw herself running through a sea of flowers, the sunlight shining on her, warm and gentle.
A vibrant, iridescent rainbow danced around her, its wings shimmering with tiny lights and emitting a soft hum, while her mother watched her from afar.
