Chapter 6 Veela's Hair
Chapter 6 Veela's Hair
"Silver linden wood, unicorn hair, thirteen and a third inches." Ollivander held out a wand and handed it to him. "The same material as your last wand, only the length has changed."
Sean took the wand and waved it gently. Although he could use it with difficulty, it felt somewhat obscure to him. It seemed that the magic was not flowing smoothly somewhere, so he shook his head.
"It's a bit strange, but it's not a problem. Even wands made of the same material can have significant differences." Ollivander didn't seem to care, taking the wand from Sean's hand and giving him a different one. "Try this one, Fig Tree, Dragon Nerve. I think it will suit you."
Sean took the wand in his hand and felt a stronger resistance than before. If the last wand was like magic stuck in traffic on a highway, then this one was completely blocked.
Ollivander also observed this, and as he put his wand away, he muttered to himself, "This shouldn't be the case. Fig wands have always been the domain of curious, energetic, and adventurous wizards..."
As he spoke, he got up and grabbed seven or eight more boxes, placing them next to Sean.
"Try this one, made of alder wood and phoenix feathers..."
"And this one? Spruce wood, the dragon's nerve."
"...Elm wood, thunderbird tail feathers..."
"Grapevine wood, dragon heartstrings?"
"Black walnut wood, cat and leopard fur..."
"Mahogany, Veela's hair."
"Fir wood, unicorn hair...?" Just as Ollivander was about to hand the wand made of "fir wood" to Sean, he was surprised to find that Sean was already wielding the wand he had previously given him with great freedom and ease—mahogany, Veela hair.
When the wand was handed to him, Sean instinctively took it. He felt a peculiar coolness suddenly surge into his heart, making him feel incredibly natural and comfortable.
This feeling was completely opposite to the feeling of holding his own wand.
If a comparison must be made, one is more like a masculine and powerful man, while the other is more like a gentle and tender woman; each has its own unique advantages and charm.
Ollivander, still reeling from the recent turn of events, didn't react until Sean asked how much it cost, at which point he instinctively replied 14 Galleons.
He had just handed it over casually. He never expected this "special" wand to satisfy this rather picky adventurer and writer.
That wand was his father's early creation. The mahogany wand was "flexible, adaptable to transformation, strong and durable, and extremely protective." Paired with "Vewa hair," which is known for its "sensitive and capricious" nature, as the wand core, it was more like a bold combination.
And indeed, after this wand was made, it possessed the characteristic of being "sensitive and willful," and after so many years, it has never encountered a suitable wizard.
He had just handed it over as a routine matter, but it unexpectedly had a surprising effect...
Sean pulled out his small purse with satisfaction, counted out fourteen Galleons, and handed them over.
Today's trip was already worthwhile just by acquiring this satisfactory wand, and his next stop was Flourish and Blotts.
When Sean reached the side of Flourish and Blotts, he realized that the situation was somewhat unexpected.
Outside Flourish and Blotts, a huge crowd of wizards gathered, creating a noisy scene. The constant flow of wizards coming and going made the originally spacious entrance feel somewhat crowded.
A large banner was displayed in front of the upstairs window:
Gilderoy Lockhart, signing and selling his autobiography, *Walking with Trolls*.
Today, 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM
There was also a short text below the banner, though it was shorter and in smaller font than Lockhart's:
Sean Phillips, new book preview—"My Days Living and Eating with the Wild Man of Shennongjia"
God knows.
Why were the book publishing companies so efficient this time?
He sent the first draft of the book by owl last night, and the other party has already started activities to promote the book the next day.
Seeing this lively scene, Sean knew it would be difficult for him to enter Flourish and Blotts Bookstore for normal shopping. In fact, if he took off his mask, who knew what kind of things those crazy book lovers at the door would do.
Sean needs to clarify beforehand that he is several levels above his senior Lockhart in looks, and it's all natural.
Therefore, Lockhart's book fans and his followers have a large overlap; they are basically the same group of people.
So, without much thought, Sean turned and walked into Madam Malkin's Robes Shop next to the bookstore—there were still some GG stickers on the outside wall display case, all the new season's clothes had arrived, and all the robes had self-ironing and self-repairing functions.
Sean picked out several magic robes in blue, black, white, and gray, and let the short, plump witch measure his body.
Mrs. Malkin was quite surprised as she served this "strangely" dressed customer. She always understood her big clients, no matter what outrageous things they did.
The wealthier people are, the more incomprehensible their behavior becomes to ordinary people.
Back then, she didn't just customize for the mistress of a pure-blood family... Thinking of this, Madam Morkin couldn't help but blush.
After leaving his home address and paying a deposit, Sean left Madam Malkin's Robes Shop.
As for the clothes and the books he wanted to buy, he had paid extra to have Mrs. Malkin send them to him by owl.
This saved him a lot of trouble.
.....
This is a dark and dirty alley, narrow and deep, with shops on both sides exuding a chilling atmosphere, as if unfathomable black magic is hidden behind each door. The shops all look old and mysterious, making people hesitant to approach them.
Among them, the most eye-catching is a shop called "Bokin Bock".
This shop is not only much larger than the others, but it also exudes an ancient and eerie atmosphere.
The shops opposite it are even more terrifying.
The shop window didn't display exquisite goods, but rather a series of eerie, shrunken human heads, staring blankly at passersby as if telling some unspeakable secret.
Between the two shops, a huge cage stood out as particularly terrifying, swarming with enormous black spiders.
They were densely intertwined and constantly wriggling, emanating a chilling aura that sent shivers down one's spine.
This is the famous Upside-Down Alley.
Meanwhile, inside the "Bogin Burke" shop, two people were whispering to each other.
