Chapter 598 Waiting and Zhang Xin
Chapter 594 Waiting and Reply
Dear Bella:
My hands have been busy for a moment as I write this letter.
You must understand why I'm risking contacting you right now.
Since that day, Draco has been imprisoned in the Ministry of Magic and has been out of contact with anyone.
You know what this means.
I hope that you and I can keep the promise we made that day.
I'm willing to give anything for this.
No matter what price or condition you propose, as long as he is still alive, as long as you can bring him home.
If only I could see him one more time—
No matter the cost, I will accept it.
I know this is hard for you, but you are Bellatrix Lestrange, you wouldn't let your own nephew be imprisoned, humiliated, and tried, would you?
Please keep your promise, Bella.
I'm waiting for your reply. Day and night.
Every time an owl flies by outside the window, I hold my breath.
Let me know you still remember him.
Your only sister, Narcissa, has been reading this letter five times already, according to Bella.
Narcissa's handwriting was as elegant and steady as ever, but her words were filled with anxiety.
Bella thought for a moment and then pulled out a piece of parchment.
The reply is as follows:
Narcissa.
I received your letter.
I'll take care of Draco's matter.
This weekend, midnight, Knockdown Lane, Boking & Burke store, I came alone.
I will tell you how to save Draco.
Burn the letter.
Waiting for you.
Don't be late.
After writing this letter, Bella wrote another one to Sean.
I wrote a lot about Voldemort's plans and about Narcissa.
These days, Narcissa's heels have left marks on the marble corridors of Malfoy Estate.
She couldn't sit still for even a moment.
The room was so empty it was suffocating.
-
The servants dared not approach her room, and even the tea was quietly placed outside the door.
Today, Narcissa has already walked 3,200 steps.
This number came from a servant who was bored at the door.
The long train of the black velvet dress trailed heavily on the floor, creating a deep echo.
Every time Narcissa walks past the window, she subconsciously looks up at the sky.
It has been three days since she sent the letter.
Bella — still hasn't replied.
Is it that Bella doesn't want to help her?
However, the two of them had clearly made an unbreakable vow.
Until that morning, when the gray sky had just begun to lighten, a window suddenly shook with a "bang" as a large, dark brown owl crashed into the window, its sharp beak pecking at the glass.
Bella, who was not sleeping soundly, was instantly awakened.
She stumbled out of bed, rushed to open the window, and the owl swooped down, tossing a gray parchment scroll in front of her before disappearing into the morning mist.
Her fingers trembled as she picked up the letter.
Bella replied.
There's only one day left until the weekend mentioned in the letter.
Time is running out for her.
The letter was burned.
The next day, in the evening.
Overturned Alley.
Despite the start of the war, it seemed to have no effect on the place called Knockout Alley.
It remains as dirty, cold, and oppressive as ever.
The air was filled with the smells of decay, cigarette ash, and old potions.
She stopped at the store entrance and pushed the door open to go inside.
-
The door hinges made a jarring creak.
The room was dimly lit, and a figure sat in the corner, as if he had been waiting for a long time.
"You've arrived."
Without any formalities or pleasantries, Narcissa got straight to the point.
He asked directly, "How can I save Draco? What do you need me to do?"
Bella didn't answer immediately. She approached, her gaze lingering on Narcissa inch by inch, as if to confirm whether she was truly ready, whether she was truly willing—
"At any cost."
She stopped two steps away from Narcissa, leaned closer, and whispered something in her ear.
His tone was low and soft, with the last syllable almost sounding like a laugh.
Upon hearing those words, Narcissa was jolted, her pupils dilating slightly.
Her ears suddenly turned red with embarrassment.
An extreme sense of discomfort and shame rose to her face.
"Are you crazy, Bella?"
Bella simply smiled, having anticipated Narcissa's reaction.
"You want me to—" Narcissa's voice was filled with disbelief, "to exchange my son's life for this?"
Bella's lips curled into a sarcastic smile.
"Then tell me," she asked slowly and gently, "do you have any other options now?"
Narcissa was stunned.
"You want to use the Ministry of Magic's connections? We're at war now, my dear."
Bella paused, her eyes sweeping over Narcissa's face with disdain.
The "Malfoy" surname hasn't been completely eradicated yet; it's only barely surviving thanks to the connections it's built up over the past. Stop dreaming.
"Whom do you want to ask? Dumbledore? He's already distanced himself from this. Or—the Dark Lord?"
She laughed, a cold laugh tinged with pity: "You really think he'd step in for a loser?"
Bella leaned close to Narcissa's ear and whispered her last words, her tone icy and chilling: "Right now, he wishes he could strangle Draco with his own hands."
Narcissa was deathly pale, her hands gripping the robes at her sides tightly.
silence.
A long silence.
After a long silence, Narcissa uttered a barely audible sentence: "—I need time."
Bella nodded, turned and walked back into the shadows to sit down.
"You only have one week," she said bluntly. "I'll be here waiting for you next weekend. If you don't come, I'll take that as a sign you've given up."
In a flash of firelight, Bella's figure disappeared.
As the door closed, Narcissa remained standing there, pale-faced, her lips tightly pressed together, her eyes filled with a terrifying wavering.
She had never felt so helpless.
But if she didn't do that, Draco would never be able to come back.
