Chapter 210 Selfies
Night had fallen, and the corridors of Hogwarts were shrouded in a thick layer of darkness, as if the air itself had become heavy and silent.
The moonlight barely penetrated the narrow gaps in the high windows, casting dappled shadows on the cold floor, only adding to the eerie atmosphere of the long corridor.
Every candle that should have emitted a warm glow had been extinguished, leaving only the faint light of the torches on the wall flickering in the wind, as if they were the only living things surviving in this silent night, struggling not to be completely swallowed by the darkness.
The helmets and portraits on both sides of the corridor looked particularly eerie in the dim light. The shadows in the armor seemed to rise and fall gently with non-existent breaths, making one feel a chill rise up from the spine.
In this environment, Lockhart walked down the corridor, his footsteps echoing in the empty space.
Each step seemed to be on some invisible rhythm, forming a stark contrast with the silent night.
"We're here, almost there."
Lockhart finally arrived at the door of the second-floor restroom, and without any hesitation, he went straight in.
Looking at the wall behind the pool, Lockhart thought for a moment and said in Parsley, "Hiss—hiss— (open)."
As soon as he finished speaking, the dragon head emitted a dazzling white light and began to spin rapidly.
Lockhart stared in surprise, never expecting that his attempt would actually trigger some kind of mechanism.
Then, the pool began to move, slowly rotating as if drawn by an invisible force.
Lockhart watched helplessly as the pool slowly disappeared from his sight, replaced by a very large water pipe, almost as wide as a person's shoulder, large enough for a person to crawl into effortlessly.
It looks deep and mysterious, lying there quietly, as if leading to an unknown realm.
Lockhart stood in front of the water pipe, his heart filled with hesitation and curiosity.
Should we go in... or not?
Having come this far, Lockhart felt an increasing sense of familiarity. Gritting his teeth, he made his decision. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and jumped in without hesitation.
His body was instantly enveloped in darkness, and he felt a strong sense of weightlessness, as if he were falling from a high cliff and could not control his fall.
The feeling of weightlessness made him dizzy, his stomach began to churn, and a feeling of nausea welled up inside him.
He tried to open his eyes, but it was pitch black all around and he couldn't see anything.
He could only feel his body falling, falling, as if it would never end.
Lockhart began to panic. He didn't know where the pipe would take him, or what he would face.
He could only close his eyes tightly and silently pray that it would all end soon.
However, the feeling of weightlessness did not last long. His body suddenly began to slow down, as if he were being held up by an invisible force.
Then, he felt his feet touch solid ground and his body regain its balance.
Where is this place?
Lockhart opened his eyes and found himself in a completely new place.
The surrounding darkness left him somewhat confused about his current situation.
So he took out his wand, took a deep breath, and shouted, "Flash!"
However, his wand only flashed a tiny spark, and the faint light vanished almost instantly, swallowed by the surrounding darkness.
Lockhart paused for a moment, then smiled sheepishly, a smile tinged with embarrassment and nervousness.
Then, he took a deep breath and shouted again in a more determined tone, "Flash!"
This time, his spell finally worked.
A bright and steady beam of light emanated from the tip of his wand, illuminating the surrounding darkness.
Lockhart was then able to see his surroundings clearly.
He was now in a large stone tunnel, big enough for two or three people to walk side by side. The walls around him were black and sticky, covered with the marks of time and an unknown damp substance, giving him a feeling of oppression and unease.
His gaze shifted downwards, and his heart suddenly tightened.
He then noticed a pile of bones scattered on the ground. The bones were small and fragile, clearly the remains of a small animal.
Seeing this, Lockhart felt an indescribable fear welling up inside him.
If his thoughts are wrong, then he might very well...
Thinking of this, Lockhart suddenly stopped in his tracks.
He looked at the pipes behind him, then at the deep tunnel ahead.
Now that things have come to this... it seems like there's no going back even if I wanted to.
Left with no other choice, Lockhart had to muster his courage and move forward.
His feet stomped loudly on the damp ground.
The tunnel was pitch black, as if it had swallowed up all the light, and his vision was limited to a small area in front of him.
Lockhart gripped his wand tightly; the faint light emanating from it in the darkness illuminated only his feet.
It's worth mentioning that he should thank Sean for taking away that huge snakeskin.
Otherwise, if he suddenly saw such a huge creature in the dark, he might have been so frightened that his legs would have gone weak and he might have fainted.
The tunnel was sometimes wide and sometimes narrow, like a maze, and Lockhart turned one bend after another.
Just as he was about to become completely disoriented by the tunnel, a wall appeared in front of him.
The wall was made of solid stone, but its surface was unusually smooth, as if it had been carefully polished.
The most striking feature is the two intertwined snakes carved on the wall; their forms are graceful and their bodies coiled and intertwined.
But for some reason, the eyes of the two snakes... always seemed to be missing something.
It felt strangely abrupt, as if someone had gouged out his eyes.
What should I do?
Having already experienced this once, Lockhart spoke to the wall again, "Hiss—hiss— (open)."
The two snakes separated, and the stone wall split in the middle, slowly sliding to both sides and disappearing.
Lockhart stood on one side of a long, dimly lit room, his heart pounding involuntarily.
Many stone pillars, carved with coiled and intertwined serpents, towered high, supporting the ceiling that dissolved into the darkness above, casting long, eerie shadows across the entire room filled with the mysterious, greenish nitrogen and argon.
Look what he found!
Just as he suspected, this really was Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets.
He gripped his wand tightly and moved slowly among the stone pillars coiled with giant snakes. Each careful step he took echoed hollowly and loudly in the ghostly walls.
He kept his eyes half-closed, ready to shut them tightly at the slightest sound. He always felt that the empty eye sockets of the two stone snakes were following him. More than once, he seemed to see something, and his stomach would cramp with tension.
When he walked to a position parallel to the last pair of stone pillars, a statue as tall as the room itself suddenly appeared before him, pressed against the dark wall behind it.
Lockhart had to crane his neck to see the enormous face above: an old, monkey-like face with a sparse, long beard that stretched almost to the hem of a stone-carved wizard's robe, and two large, gray feet standing on the smooth floor of the room.
On this enormous wizard statue, a knocked-open door stands out, as if it were a mysterious entrance to another world.
Lockhart stared at the door, and a voice suddenly rose in his mind, as if telling him: "Climb up, climb up, and when you go in, you will find your lost memories."
Lockhart felt a strange impulse, as if the answer he had been searching for was hidden behind that door.
Without further hesitation, he decided to climb the statue and find out what was going on.
He first looked around for footholds to climb. The statue's surface was uneven, with many bumps and hollows, which gave him a headache. But he didn't give up; instead, he began searching for the most stable route.
He reached out and gripped a protruding stone on the statue, then pulled hard, moving his body a short distance upwards. He repeated this action, climbing upwards inch by inch. His heart pounded.
Sweat streamed down his face, but he didn't stop.
Finally, he reached the statue's shoulder, not far from the open door. He took a deep breath, calmed himself, and continued climbing.
His fingers ached slightly from the force he exerted, but he didn't give up, because he knew he was only one step away from uncovering the secret.
Finally, he successfully climbed to the top of the statue, and the open door was right in front of him.
He slowly walked in, only to be surprised to find the stone house filled with his selfies!
At that moment, he was stunned, completely unable to comprehend what was happening before him.
