Chapter 104 Muggle Studies
Chapter 104 Muggle Studies
For Harry, life at the Burrow and life on Privet Drive were worlds apart.
The Dursleys loved everything to be in perfect order, but the Weasleys were full of wonder and surprises.
The mirror on the kitchen mantel startled Harry. The first time he looked in it, the mirror suddenly yelled, "Tuck your shirt in! You're so sloppy!"
The ghoul in the attic would howl loudly and bang on the pipes whenever it felt the house was too quiet.
The small explosions in Fred and George's bedroom were considered perfectly normal. But to Harry, the most unusual thing about life in the Ron family wasn't the talking mirror or the banging ghouls, but that everyone seemed to like him.
Mrs. Weasley mended his socks and forced him to have four refills at every meal.
Mr. Weasley liked to have Harry sit next to him at meals and would keep asking Harry about Muggle life, such as what plugs and the post office were all about.
Professor Sean would quiz Ron, the Weasley brothers, and Percy every day on what they had learned in the previous semester. Occasionally, Ginny, who would be starting this semester, would also sit in on the lesson.
Yes, you heard right, Professor Sean stayed here too. Surprising, isn't it?
For some reason, when Professor Sean was about to leave on the first day, Aunt Molly casually asked if he wanted to stay another day, and Professor Sean agreed. The same thing happened on the second and third days, and even on the fourth day, no one asked, so Professor Sean naturally stayed there.
What he meant was not that the Weasleys disliked Professor Sean; on the contrary, they liked him very much.
It goes without saying that Aunt Molly is a huge fan of Professor Sean; Uncle Arthur always spends his time after get off work discussing alchemy with Professor Sean; and his good friend Ron feels triumphant—he originally thought his house wouldn't be favored by other wizards, but Professor Sean's actions have overturned his previous idea.
All these factors, coupled with the Weasleys' naturally hospitable nature, kept Professor Sean extremely busy.
Through these conversations with Professor Sean over the past few days.
He also understood why Professor Sean had seemed familiar to him all along.
He actually lived in the same neighborhood as Professor Sean, and the two had almost identical childhood experiences.
This made Harry feel very close to Sean, so much so that he often sat beside Sean these past few days watching him pull up goblins in the garden—though he didn’t know why.
That morning.
Several people were eating breakfast together.
Today's breakfast was as plentiful as usual. The golden fried eggs looked especially tempting under the sunlight, with the yolks slightly set. Next to them was a plate of steaming sausages, grilled until the skin was crispy and the inside was tender and juicy, emitting an enticing aroma.
To Harry's left was a large bowl of steaming oatmeal, topped with fresh blueberries and nuts. Just as he was taking a spoonful, he heard a gasp from beside him.
"A bamboo dragonfly?" Arthur seemed a little puzzled. It was the weekend, and he didn't have to go to work, so he could enjoy lunch with everyone at this moment.
"Yes, the Alchemist Bamboo Dragonfly." Sean nodded. "It's the idea I told you about a few days ago."
"To cast a levitation spell on a bamboo dragonfly and transform it into an alchemical artifact?" Arthur forked a sausage, popped it into his mouth, and chewed it voraciously, so his speech was a little unclear. "It sounds... very... difficult... not... that... simple..."
"What is a bamboo dragonfly?" Ron asked.
"A little Eastern toy." Sean put down his fork and gestured to Ron to show him what the bamboo dragonfly looked like. "Like... a helicopter propeller."
If he remembers correctly, in the 1930s, the Germans invented the helicopter propeller based on the shape and principle of the "bamboo dragonfly".
"I have another idea, Arthur," Sean paused, then continued, "How about I add some kind of 'Bubble Head Charm' to your car and turn it into a submersible vehicle?"
"It's difficult, it's in ancient magical script..."
So the two men had a series of opinions and discussions about modifying Muggle items at the dinner table, while the Weasley brothers listened with great interest.
Actually, compared to flying cars or diving cars, they would prefer to install a device on the car that can automatically project feces, believing that such a car would definitely be popular.
Just as the discussion was in full swing, an owl flew in through the window.
He left a letter and then departed.
Harry, who was closest, saw the signature on the envelope and handed the letter to Sean. "Professor, this is a letter from Dumbledore."
Sean took the envelope, opened it, and found the contents exactly as he had expected.
"Dear Sean Phillips:
The issue we discussed last time has been resolved today.
For a reason we both know (continued in Chapter 81), we need to reassign you, so we are officially hiring you as Professor of Muggle Studies this semester.
Please send a list of books to be used in Muggle Studies this semester to Minerva's office by next week.
Albus Dumbledore
Since his last conversation with Dumbledore, Sean had a vague feeling that he wouldn't be able to stay in his position in the Defense Against the Dark Arts class for very long.
This had nothing to do with the quality of his teaching; it came from Voldemort's curse.
Even the greatest anti-curse master of this century was helpless against this curse. Before Sean arrived, the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor was changed every year, and Sean naturally did not think he would break this "rule".
Although he had a cheat device, he wouldn't use his limited modification opportunities here—doing so would not only attract Voldemort's attention but also Dumbledore and other interested parties, which would be a loss for him.
His only goal was to become a professor at Hogwarts; changing subjects would have absolutely no impact on him.
He also knew a little about the Muggle Studies course he would be teaching next semester.
Sean dared to say that no one in the entire Hogwarts knew more about Muggles than him, because he was a Muggle in his past life, and he could foresee the changes in Muggle society over the next thirty years.
Even Muggles don't understand Muggles as well as he does. Most Muggles can't imagine that thirty years from now, the world will have space station hotels, widespread driverless trams, major breakthroughs in gene editing, and the global spread of the internet...
Therefore, this position is the perfect fit for Sean.
Previously, the positions of Muggle Studies were held by Quirrell and Kereddy Boubagi, with Quirrell resigning before going to Albania and Boubagi taking over for a year.
However, he caused dissatisfaction among some people by bringing pinball machines into the school, and due to personal factors, he left Hogwarts after only one year of teaching.
As a result, the course "Muggle Studies" was not offered last semester.
What impressed Sean most about him wasn't that he brought a pinball machine into the school, which involved gambling, but that he actually discussed Muggle chemistry with Snape in the Potions classroom. That conversation was successfully interrupted by Tonks—because Snape didn't want to talk to him. Tonks, who was standing nearby, noticed this and considerately helped the two end that awkward conversation.
After reading the letter, Sean put it back in the envelope, while the Weasley brothers, sitting nearby...
